How to build a document based website with Microsoft Office
What you'll need before getting started
- Internet Access
- Microsoft Office w/ FrontPage
- A pre-existing email address
Getting Started
Opening a free web site account
- Close any open programs
- Opening a web browser. i.e. Internet Explorer
- Click File | Open
- Type in address www.tripod.com | click OK
- Once page loads, click the Sign Up button located on the top of page next to New User
- Scroll down to the section labeled Tripod free | click sign up
- Network Membership
- Choose Your Lycos Member Name and Password
Note: Member name will be used for both your web and email
Example:
- Member Name: janedoe10000
- Email: janedoe10000@tripod.com
- Web Address: janedoe10000.tripod.com
- Personalize Your Experience by filling out the require information, be sure all field are filled out
- Be sure this information is correct and document both you Member Name and Password for save keeping
- Continue to scroll down and select any Lycos Registration Offers you may be interested in
- Continue to scroll down and select any Tripod & Terra Lycos
Network Offers you may be interested in. It is suggested to uncheck all options to prevent unwanted email.
- Enter the confirmation code as show. This is to prevent the automation of account creation.
- Click on the I Agree button
- Confirmation
- Once page load you browser should like something like this. If not , go back and review that all field are filled out correctly
- Click on Activate your account and start building!
- Enable Microsoft® FrontPage® extensions
- Click My Account | Website Details
- Scroll down to preferences, Microsoft® FrontPage® | click Enable
- Document the web address to publish you web to Tripod from FrontPage
Example:
- Member Name: janedoe10000
- Web Address: http://frontpage.tripod.com/janedoe10000/
Note: This step may have to be preformed using Internet Explorer as opposed to an alternate browser like Opera.
Prepare you documents

- Gather all document to be published into a single parent
folder, they may be organized by using subfolder provide all subfolders are located
in the parent folder. This may include word-processing, spreadsheets, databases,
pictures, text, presentation documents and others.
Example:
- Parent Folder: My Documents
- Subfolder: Document based website
Create your website
- Close any open programs

- Open Microsoft FrontPage
- Open the Task Pane: click View | Task Pane. If Task Pane is not list, click on the double down arrow located
at the bottom of the View menu

- Using the Task Pane in the New from template section, select Web Site Templates..

- Select Import Web Wizard | document the location of the new web | click OK

- Once the Import Web Wizard loads, select the first option, From a source directory of files on a local computer or network
| click Browse.. | navigate to and select your document Parent folder
| click Open | check Include subfolders | click Next
- Click Next for a second
time | click Finish. FrontPage will now import the document. You may receive a
dialog box indicating the Server Busy. This will happen if one of the documents
FrontPage is importing is opened we another program. Select Retry.
- Reopen the Task Pane
- Using the Task Pane in the New from template section, select Page Templates...
- Select Table of Contents, you may have to scroll down | click OK

- Click File | Save | File name: index.htm | click Save

- Using the View Bar,
select Navigation. The View Bar can be displayed by clicking View | check View Bar
- Using the Folder List, drop-and-drop a document into the Navigation
view. The Folder List can be displayed by clicking View | check Folder List
Perform this process for each the desired documents

Publish website
- Close any open programs
- Open Microsoft FrontPage
- Click File | Publish Web
- Enter the publish destination | click OK
Example: http://frontpage.tripod.com/janedoe10000/
- Enter your Member Name and password | click OK

- Click Publish. This will copy all local file to Tripod's remote server.

- Click Click here to view your published web site
- In FrontPage, click Done
